Ellen Gerritse taught fine art in Europe for a long time but had the opportunity to travel the world extensively. She has an unique and timeless way of expressing her self, proclaiming her individuality among a sea of contemporary artists. She is the creator of contemporary objects that make statements, at times personal becoming an integral part of a legacy that one can pass on to the next generation. Though silversmithing is her first love, Ellen prefers to combine metal work with other materials like paper mache to produce contemporary objects. Her designs are personal well beyond the concept of traditional jewelry but they also absorb the changes happening around them. The greatest influences on her work have come from living and working in Asia. Being constantly on the move, with a limited knowledge of local suppliers, she finds herself drawn to create objects from simple, accessible materials and the few tools close at hand. She finds this way challenging to her way of thinking.
